EU agri-food exports continue to grow at a record pace, according to the latest data published on Monday 22 July by the European Commission.
The latest monthly report on EU agri-food trade shows that the strong start to exports in 2019 was confirmed in May, with a new record of €12.8 billion, 13% above the May 2018 level. Imports also increased to €10.7 billion (+6% compared to May 2018).
As a result, the monthly surplus in agri-food trade amounts to €2.1 billion (compared to €1.3 billion in May 2018). The highest increases in the value of monthly exports (May 2019 compared to May 2018) were recorded to China (+€320 million), the United States (+307 million), Japan (+165 million) and Canada (+55 million).
The products with the best export performance were pork meat (+€156 million), spirits and liqueurs (+151 million), wine and vermouth (+137 million) and baby food (+108 million).
