11/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 11 July, Acting Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein appointed the current Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, for a third consecutive term, according to Reuters. The Austrian has already held the position of Commissioner for Regional Policy under the Barroso II Commission. This decision is the result of a consensus between the political groups in the Austrian Parliament, but the Austrian Parliament has yet to give the green light. Johannes Hahn, born in 1957, from the ÖVP (EPP) party, was Federal Minister of Science and Research before joining the Commission in 2010. On Thursday, Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker interviewed Estonian Kadri Simson and Romanian Ioan Mircea Pașcu, who were appointed by their respective governments to sit on the College until the end of the Juncker Commission's term (see EUROPE 12288/6).
