13/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The BBC has reported that former British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson led at the end of the first round of voting in the election for the new leader of the Tory party, with 114 votes out of a possible 313. Three of the 10 candidates have been eliminated before the next round: Mark Harper, Andrea Leadsom and Esther McVey. Foreign minister Jeremy Hunt came second with 43 votes and Michael Gove third with 37 votes. The next round will take place next week with the candidates in the top two places then going on to a final decisive vote. The name of the next leader of the Tory party and therefore the name of the next British Prime Minister will be announced during the week of 22 July. (SP)
