13/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – Unless there is a rapid agreement on the EU's multiannual financial framework for 2021-2027, the next interinstitutional negotiation meeting on the LIFE Environment/Climate post-2020 programme may not take place before 2020. The future Finnish Presidency of the Council of the EU is very motivated and would very much like to be able to complete this dossier, which concerns the only financial instrument specifically dedicated to the environment and climate action, a European source said on Wednesday 12 June. “But the EU Council wants to know the amount of the financial envelope for the program. It is therefore possible that the trilogue will not resume until 2020”. All other aspects of the programme were the subject of a ‘common understanding’ between Parliament and the EU Council last April (see EUROPE 12238/18). (AN)
