MEPs meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament, broadly approved (508 votes in favour, 24 votes against, 19 abstentions) the provisional interinstitutional agreement on establishing a European Maritime Single Window environment.
This agreement was reached between the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union and representatives of the European Parliament on 7 February after a second, and relatively short, meeting of interinstitutional negotiations ('trilogues') (see EUROPE 12189/13). These discussions echoed the European Commission's proposal of last May within the context of the third ‘mobility’ package (see EUROPE 12022/11), aimed at harmonising the functioning of the national counters.
This formal approval by parliamentarians in the European Parliament plenary session follows the go-ahead given by MEPs of the institution's ‘transport’ committee on 4 March (see EUROPE 12206/28).
In order for this text on the establishment of a European single window environment to enter into force, the Council of the European Union must now adopt it. (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
