18/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The spokeswoman of the European External Action Service denounced on Wednesday 17 April the further extension by a Moscow City Court of the detention of 24 Ukrainian soldiers until 24 and 26 July (see EUROPE 12174/34). They have been held since 25 November 2018, without justification. "The EU has repeatedly stated that it expects Russia to release these sailors immediately and unconditionally", the spokeswoman said. "While the sailors remain detained, Russia must respect their right to legal representation, unhindered access by consular authorities, and ensure that all crewmen receive appropriate medical treatment as several of them were wounded during the capture" she added. The spokesperson also lamented that the hearings were now closed to the public. (CG)
