Fish and fish products at top of food fraud in EU, according to 2018 report

15/04/2019 (Agence Europe)Voluntary exchanges on suspected cross-border food fraud increased last year, according to the annual report of the European Food Fraud Network (FFN) and the System for Administrative Assistance (AAC-FF), published on Friday 12 April. 234 requests for cooperation were made by EU Member States and Norway and 33 by the Commission. Although these exchanged requests do not represent all the fraud incidents that occurred in 2018, this number has increased significantly (178 in 2017, 157 in 2016). The category 'Fish and fish products' was at the top of the list (45) followed by the category 'meat and meat products' (41) and 'fats and oils' (29). Mislabelling was the most frequent fraud (41.89% of cases), followed by missing or falsified documents (20.19%). Link to the report: https://bit.ly/2Ujn3Gd (AN)
