15/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The EU Agriculture Council on Monday 15 April invited the European Commission to launch a reflection on options for a new EU strategy for forests after 2020. The Council supports a more integrated approach "to further explore environmental, social and economic opportunities and challenges, while taking into account relevant policy developments at international, EU and Member State level". In addition, the Commission is invited to present an ambitious Communication on intensifying EU action against deforestation and forest degradation. The Council notes that, despite the progress made, further efforts are needed to achieve the objectives of the EU Forest Strategy in a timely manner. (LC)
