01/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is preparing to launch a second call for expressions of interest on Thursday 4 April as part of the Wifi4EU project, which provides financial support for the installation of free wireless access points in public spaces. 3,400 vouchers worth €15,000 each will be available this time. The call will stay open for one and a half days and will be managed on a ‘first come - first served’ basis all while maintaining a geographical balance. In November, during the first call for expressions of interest, 13,000 municipalities expressed interest while only 2,800 vouchers were available (see EUROPE 12130/15). A few days ago, the Commission replied to a parliamentary question on the first call in which a content error was reported in the letters sent to unlucky municipalities (the reasons for non-selection were incorrect), which was corrected a few days later.
