20/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The MEPs of the Employment and Social Affairs Committee (EMPL) adopted (30 votes in favour, 5 votes against, 4 abstentions) on Tuesday 19 February the Interinstitutional Agreement on the Directive on predictable and transparent working conditions, on which the European Parliament rapporteur is the Spanish Enrique Calvet Chambon (ALDE). The text aims to adapt the 91/533/EC Directive to the current labour market. The revised Directive will only apply to contracts of at least 12 hours per month and provides for more or less extensive exemptions for certain public bodies and seafarers, introducing provisions for workers on request and better regulating probationary periods. Moreover, it does not provide for a definition of the term 'worker' at European level, but introduces a reference to the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union (see EUROPE 12189).
