20/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – After Facebook, at the end of January (see EUROPE 12181), it is the turn of the social network Twitter to commit itself to better control the political advertising broadcast on its network in preparation for the European elections in May 2019. On Tuesday, February 19, Twitter announced that it would extend its advertising transparency policy, already applied in the United States, to all EU Member States, but also to India and Australia. The social network also launched a centre providing users with information on political advertising on Twitter, including spending and demographic targeting. The new Twitter policy will start to apply in the EU on 11 March. Political advertisers are now invited to apply for certification from the social network to be allowed to advertise. (MF)
