20/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The head of the Swedish delegation of the EPP Group to the European Parliament, Gunnar Hökmark, has written to the group's chairman, Manfred Weber (Germany), asking that the new 'anti-Brussels' campaign directly targeting the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, orchestrated by the Hungarian government of Viktor Orbán, himself a member of the Christian Democratic Party (see EUROPE 12197), be discussed on Wednesday 6 March and next week at an extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary group's Executive Board. “It is populism of the worst kind”, he said. Weber, the candidate at the top of the EPP’s list in the European elections in May, did not support the removal of Mr Orbán's Fidesz party when he was appointed, unlike his opponent, Alexander Stubb, who, on Monday, supported the condemnation of the Hungarian campaign by Frenchman Joseph Daul, the EPP party president.
