20/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – US IT giant Microsoft warned on Wednesday 20 February against cyber attacks against the EU, particularly in the run-up to the European elections in May 2019. On its blog, it reports that it recently identified activities targeting democratic institutions in Europe, including a series of attacks on the German Council on Foreign Relations, the Aspen Institute in Europe and the German Marshall Fund between September and December 2018. Accounts of around 100 employees of these organisations, located in Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, Romania and Serbia, were reportedly targeted. Microsoft, which continues to investigate these attacks, also announced on the same day the extension of its Microsoft AccountGuard cybersecurity program to 12 new markets in Europe. (MF)
