15/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 14 February, Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) approved the agreement reached between representatives of the European Parliament and the EU Council on 4 February (see EUROPE 12187) on the proposal for a directive to facilitate the use of digital tools for company registration and online information management (see EUROPE 12185). The agreement maintains the key element of the proposal whereby Member States will now have to provide a fully online procedure for registering limited liability companies and setting up subsidiary companies. They also highlighted the safeguards required to combat fraud and abuse that may arise in online proceedings, including the checking the identity and legal capacity of the people who set up the company. The agreement has yet to be confirmed by the European Parliament. (MF)
