Commission allocates additional €251 million to Erasmus+ for 2019

On Friday 15 February, the European Commission adopted a revision of the Erasmus+ programme, which notably modifies its financing by allocating an additional EUR 251 million to the EUR 3 billion budget already planned for 2019.

This supplement will be invested in student mobility and a number of priority projects.

"I am very pleased that the Erasmus+ programme 2019 will be able to offer more people a learning experience abroad and in particular double the funds for European Universities", said Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education.

"We will also increase funding for the new Centres of Vocational Excellence and be able to reinforce our focus on social inclusion projects", he added.

According to the Commission's press release, this revision of the Erasmus+ programme will also benefit innovative and interdisciplinary projects such as digital learning and science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics education, as well as international activities in the field of higher education.

The additional funding was agreed between the EU Council and the European Parliament in their decision on the EU budget for 2019 (see EUROPE 12158). (Original version in French by Damien Genicot - intern)
