23/01/2019 (Agence Europe) – As announced (see EUROPE 12176), on Wednesday 23 January MEPs from the Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee approved the December interinstitutional agreement (see EUROPE 12157) on proposals establishing the centralised information system 'ECRIS-TCN' on convictions of third-country nationals. The regulation was approved by 34 votes to 11, with 9 abstentions. The EPP, ECR, ENF and EFDD groups supported the agreement en bloc, while other groups were more divided, particularly because of the inclusion in the system of dual nationals with EU and third-country nationality. According to our information, 4 GUE/NGL MEPs, 3 Greens/EFA MEPs and 3 ALDE MEPs voted against the agreement. The majority of the S&D group would have abstained, with the exception of two of its MEPs who would have voted in favour. (MF)
