Bucharest ordered to recover €60 million in unjustified aid to an energy producer

On Thursday 8 November, the European Commission ordered Romania to recover a sum in the region of €60 million corresponding to State aid awarded to the energy producer Complexul Energetic Hunedoara (CE Hunedoara) and incompatible with EU rules on State aid.

In 2015, the Commission authorised Bucharest to award CE Hunedoara temporary rescue aid in exchange for a restructuring plan, to guarantee its viability in the event that it was unable to repay the aid.
