During his visit to Brussels, Burkina Faso's President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré met High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Wednesday 7 November.
Mogherini said she shared the concerns expressed by Kaboré in the face of the recent terrorist attacks and expressed the EU's readiness to do more in the area of security, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS). The two parties hailed the delivery of initial equipment for the G5 Sahel joint force and debated the agenda of the G5 Sahel, which will be chaired by Burkina Faso next year.
The previous day, Kaboré met European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker. Two new financing conventions were signed with European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica to support the creation of jobs in the cultural industry (€10 million) and the efforts of the government to favour gender equality (€5 million) in Burkina Faso.
These projects are financed, as part of development cooperation, by the 11th EDF (European Development Fund). These meetings took place on the sidelines of the 'Africa Week' organised by the European Parliament's S&D Group. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
