08/11/2018 (Agence Europe) – If you are in the European part of Brussels, you will perhaps see a member of the European Parliament’s staff riding a black electric scooter (or “trottinette”). The lucky person in question is one of 15 representatives chosen by the EP administration in the context of a four-month pilot project to test these characteristic, silent devices for moving around for work needs or for travelling to and from the place of work. “Thanks to their autonomy and lightness, the electric trottinettes can be used for the whole journey or as a complement when travelling by train, bus, tram or metro”, the Parliament's administration promises, extending its current offer after having made bicycles available. It nonetheless warns: the Highway Code must be “scrupulously” upheld and riders must wear “reflective helmets and jackets”, a look which cannot be sported “inside the buildings”. (MB)
