European Parliament pressurises Council by voting for a high budget for 2019

In Strasbourg on Wednesday 24 October, the European Parliament decided to send out a strong signal to the Council to secure an ambitious 2019 European budget, focusing on young people, the migration crisis and innovation.

The MEPs cancelled almost all of the budgetary cuts proposed by the Council in September (except those concerning Turkey). The European Parliament supports a 2019 budget of €166.34 billion in commitments (€721 million more than the Commission proposed) and €149.3...
