24/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – As announced (see EUROPE 12122), the Council's position on the reform of the '.eu' top level domain name, adopted by the Member States' representatives to the EU (COREPER) on Wednesday 24 October 2018, is fairly close to the draft presented by the Commission on 27 April. For both institutions, access to the domain name must be extended to EU citizens not residing in the EU, non-citizens residing there and "established” legal persons - no longer "mainly located" in the EU. The Council also plans to bring the legislation on '.eu' into line with the DGPS, which was promulgated on the day of the Commission's announcement. Finally, the Council is in favour of a real competition between candidates for the role of 'Registry' and a better definition of the supervisory power of the stakeholder group. (MS)
