24/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 24 October, the European Commission approved a six year extension of a Luxembourg measure to support biogas production. This aid, worth €45 million, is intended to ensure stable remuneration for biogas producers. The measure was first validated by the institution in 2011, before being modified in 2015. The Commission has assessed this extension in light of the rules of Union law and, in particular, the 2014 guidelines on environmental protection and energy. It considered that, thanks to the extension of this scheme, Luxembourg could increase its share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources. Today's decision covers the period January 2017 - December 2022. (LT)
