EU urges immediate halt of rocket fire from Gaza

17/10/2018 (Agence Europe) – The spokeswoman of the European External Action Service denounced on Wednesday 17 October the launching of rockets into Israeli territory from Gaza the previous day, urging an immediate halt to the rocket and mortar fire by Palestinian militants from Gaza towards Israel. "Indiscriminate attacks against civilians are completely unacceptable", she said in a statement. The previous evening, a rocket struck a house in the Israeli town of Be'er Sheva and another was launched towards the sea. In response, Israeli forces have struck 20 targets in Gaza. "The first priority now is for de-escalation", said the EEAS spokeswoman. Before adding: "The cycle of violence and despair has to be broken". According to her "only a political solution can put an end to the violence". (CG)
