10/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 7 September, the European Commission announced a loan of nearly €4.7 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) to help former clothing workers in Portugal following the dismissal of 1,161 workers from two clothing factories in the north, centre and Lisbon. European Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs, Marianne Thyssen, said the 4.7 million from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund would help 730 workers who’ve lost their job and an equivalent number of young unemployed. The total cost of the aid is around €7.7 million, explains the Commission in a press release. The proposal now needs to be examined by the European Parliament and the Council for approval. (PH)
