10/09/2018 (Agence Europe) – Transport & Environment (T&E), a European pro-green mobility organisation, published a summary document on Friday 7 September on the social and environmental impact of electric cars. T&E says the rise of electric cars is expected to create 200,000 new jobs by 2030 and fewer CO2 emissions than thermal engines over the entire vehicle lifecycle. The organisation throttles a dominant idea that the land needed to manufacture batteries would nearly all be in China, because it demonstrates that the EU also has the necessary land. Tension is mounting between environmental organisations and car manufacturers, as the European Parliament prepares to vote on CO2 emission reductions targets from now until 2030 (see EUROPE 12088).
