30/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – The EU is ready to provide Indonesia with aid after the deadly earthquake that hit the island of Lombok, the European Commission announced on the evening of Sunday 29 July. “We are closely monitoring the situation. Our thoughts are with the injured, those who have lost their lives and their families. EU stands ready to help”, the European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management, Christos Stylianides, said on Twitter. The earthquake, of a magnitude of 6.4, left more than 14 people dead, according to provisional reports. The Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre is monitoring the situation. Support may be channelled through the EU civil protection mechanism in response to a request for assistance made by the authorities of a country stricken by a disaster in Europe or the world. (AN)
