30/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – The United Kingdom and China are planning to negotiate a free-trade deal after Brexit, the new head of British diplomacy, Jeremy Hunt, said on a visit to Beijing on Monday 30 July. We discussed “the offer made by Foreign Minister Wang Yi to open discussions about a possible free-trade deal done between Britain and China post-Brexit”, which is “something we welcome and said that we will explore”, Hunt said after the meeting. In Beijing earlier this year, the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, spoke of speeding up discussions to lift trade barriers between the two countries. “As the UK leaves the EU and becomes ever more outward-looking, we are committed to deepening this vital partnership”, Hunt said before the end of his visit.
