30/07/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 July, the European Commission approved a Greek measure to support flexible power capacity providers. These providers, which include gas-fired power plants, storage operators and users may benefit from support in return for standing ready to generate or reduce electricity consumption. This will allow the Greek network operator to deal with fluctuations in electricity production and consumption, as it may now select flexible capacity providers through competitive auctions. The regime will apply until the end of 2019. The Commission considers that the measure will help to support the Greek authorities in their reform of the electricity market, as decided upon in the framework of the third bailout plan (see EUROPE 12046), but without creating competition distortions.
