27/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 June in London, British social partners including the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) had a meeting for the first time with the European employers' organisation, BusinessEurope. The aim of the meeting: to launch an appeal to member states in view of the European Council on 28 and 29 June (see other articles); to make some “urgent” progress in the Brexit negotiations, particularly on the question of regulatory alignments, the border between Ireland and Northern Ireland and whether the United Kingdom is going to remain in the customs union or not. On Tuesday, the European Chambers of Commerce and Industry launched a similar appeal calling for clarification as soon as possible (see EUROPE 12049). (PH)
