Eurojust considers judicial cooperation after Brexit is crucial

22/06/2018 (Agence Europe)A day after declarations by Michel Barnier on Tuesday 19 June that it would be impossible for the United Kingdom to use the European arrest warrant (see EUROPE 12044), Eurojust stated that cooperation with the United Kingdom after Brexit was indispensable. Eurojust believes that functional cooperation is important probably in the form of a liaison office at Eurojust. Third countries that have this status have an opportunity for opening and collaborating in Eurojust cases, as well as signing and taking part in joint investigation teams (JIT) and receiving funding for operational costs. Frédéric Baab, a member of the French national office at Eurojust provided assurances that, “These countries do not participate in the governance of the institution but at an operational level they have the same powers as a member states”. The other countries that rely on this cooperation status include the US, Montenegro, Switzerland and Norway. (CG, trainee)
