22/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 22 June, the European Commission welcomed the decision taken the previous day by the World Forum for Harmonisation of Vehicle Regulations on the vehicles to use in the European Union’s Real Driving Testing (RDE) methodology, in an effort to develop a harmonised regulatory framework at a global level. This new methodology has been compulsory at an EU level since September 2017. The World Forum decided to set up a working group on autonomous cars following the recommendations formulated by the high-Level Group GEAR 2030 and the Mobility Package adopted in May 2018, which contains a strategy on automated mobility (see EUROPE 12019). The Commissioner for the Internal Market and Industry, Elżbieta Bieńkowska, welcomed the decision as “excellent news”. (PH)
