22/06/2018 (Agence Europe) – In a press release on Friday 22 June, Parliament’s civil liberties committee (LIBE) expressed its disappointment with Facebook's refusal to send the representatives requested by Parliament to the hearing it is organising on the Cambridge Analytica scandal, next Monday in Brussels. Out of the three speakers invited (see EUROPE 12037), only Joel Kaplan, responsible for international public policy from the group will be present, accompanied by two members of the public policies team, Steve Satterfield and Lord Richard Allan. Despite several exchanges on this subject, the social network did not want to hear anything more on the matter. The chairperson of the LIBE committee, Claude Moraes (S&D, United Kingdom), stated “It is with reluctance, therefore, that we will now hear from public policy team members proposed by Facebook. It will be up to Members to see if Facebook's answers will be sufficient, convincing and trustworthy”. (MF)
