European car makers met their average CO2 emission targets in 2016 for new private cars and vans, according to tests carried out in the laboratory but they still have much to do if they are to meet the targets set by EU legislation for the next stage – 2020 for cars and 2021 for vans, the European Environmental Agency (EEA) said on Thursday 18 January.
