18/01/2018 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 18 January, the European Parliament approved a non-legislative resolution authorising the Commission to ratify Marrakesh Treaty on behalf of the EU. It should be recalled that the Marrakesh Treaty was adopted on 23 June 2013, under the auspices of the World Industrial Property Organisation (WIPO). Its aim is to facilitate the access of the blind and visually impaired to a broader choice of books published in adapted formats such as Braille. Parliament and the Council reached an agreement on the modalities for implementing this treaty (see EUROPE 11786) but they still need to ratify the proposal for a decision from the Council authorising the EU to endorse it after the decision is made by the European Court of Justice (see EUROPE 11725). It is on this question and that today's resolution focuses and it was adopted by very large majority. (SPj)
