04/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – Ahead of the meeting of the plants, animals food and feed (PAFF) committee which is due to discuss the proposal to re-authorise glyphosate for a period of ten years, MEP Éric Andrieu (S&D, France) has called on the member states not to vote before the next PAFF committee meeting scheduled for 23 October. “Over and above the discussions within the new German coalition, we call on the member states to take account of the outcome of the Parliament hearing on 11 October on the Monsanto Papers so that an informed opinion can be delivered on this potentially carcinogenic substance. We cannot take chances with the health of 500 million consumers”, he stated, on Wednesday 4 October. The Commission has confirmed to EUROPE that a “discussion” was planned, but would not say whether it would happen on 5 or 6 October. (AN)
