04/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – Spain will have to explain to the Court of Justice of the European Union why it has not yet implemented the directive on payment accounts. The directive (2014/92), which has been in force since September 2016, authorises any person residing legally in the EU to hold a basic payment account at a reasonable cost, irrespective of his or her place of residence (see EUROPE 11061). It also improves the transparency of costs related to payment accounts and makes it easier to compare and change accounts. However, Spain has still not transposed this directive into national law.
