04/10/2017 (Agence Europe) – Several founding members of the Basque citizens' initiative ¡Basta Ya!, which received the Sakharov Prize in 2000 for its opposition to terrorism (especially ETA), sent a letter on Tuesday 3 October to the three presidents of the European institutions to support Spain in the face of the Catalan desires for independence. The signatories of the letter do not beat about the bush, but call on the European institutions "to support Spain to restore the constitutional order and the rules of democracy in a region controlled by a seditious administration and a corrupt political class, which is not only part of Spain, but also part of the European Union", in order to avoid the destruction of the European project. The letter, which its signatories say attempts to set the record straight, was notably signed by Maite Pagazaurtundúa Ruiz MEP (ALDE, Spain) and former MEP Rosa Díez González (S&D, Spain). (PH)
