An authorised source in the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) stated last week that local and regional authorities, especially those in the Mediterranean, are concerned about the rise in European uncertainty, Brexit, euroscepticism and the fear of the future they say they feel.
These authorities call for their ranks to be locked through greater cooperation based on solidarity and the search for territorial cohesion, by means of exchanges and the creation of more regional networks.
The EU is asked to give its action a stronger territorial dimension. The Mediterranean regions are probably among the most concerned and fragile territories, despite strong unexploited potential at socio-economic level, they state.
This message underlies the work of the Inter-Mediterranean Commission of the CRPM that will take place in Naples, Italy, on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 July. The event is expected to bring together the members of countries on both shores of the Mediterranean, as well as key partner institutions and external stakeholders.
Among the concrete action planned that will form the subject of discussion, will be the issue of "economic and social cohesion" measures, support for "sustainable tourism", and the implementation of a blue economy agenda, which is promoted by the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM). There will also be discussion on the general policy linked to the EU, neighbourhood policy, the issue of migration and that of young people. (Original version in French by Fathi B’Chir)
