14/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – The Committee of the Regions (CoR) gave a particularly warm welcome to the own initiative report adopted at the European Parliament on Tuesday 13 June. This report focuses on the future of cohesion policy and one of its particularities includes the rejection of the macro-economic conditions (see EUROPE 11807). This point was particularly welcomed by the CoR. The CoR rapporteur for the opinion on post-2020 cohesion policy, Michael Schneider (EPP, Germany) particularly welcomed Parliament's text and saw it as a sign in favour of strengthening the Cohesion Policy Alliance (see EUROPE 11805). The rapporteur for the text in Parliament, Kerstin Westphal (S&D, Germany) confirmed that she wanted action taken with the CoR in an effort to promote cohesion policy. The two institutions also made a commitment to stepping up their cooperation (see EUROPE 1187). (PH)
