On Wednesday 14 June, the European Commission adopted the Annual Action Programme 2017 (AAP2017) of the Partnership Instrument, approving 19 new projects totalling more than €87 million. This instrument aims to work with international partners to defend strategic interests of the EU and to propose solutions to global issues.
For 2017, the European Commission has laid particular emphasis on climate action, clean energy, biodiversity and green diplomacy. It will implement projects in China (€3.5 million), India (€3.85 million) and Argentina (€4.5 million) in line with the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the fight against climate change. Projects will also cover other priorities of EU foreign policy, such as managing migration and trade, in particular by supporting dialogue and cooperation on migration and mobility with India, to the tune of €3 million, and by engaging with civil society in the processes of drawing up trade policy (€3 million).
Tackling inequality, promoting responsible enterprise and defending opportunities for decent work in Latin America also feature among the projects approved. Finally, the Partnership Instrument will support actions aiming to support the public and cultural diplomacy of the EU, with an envelope of nearly €13.5 million.
