14/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – On 14 June, the European Parliament once again voted to lift the parliamentary immunity of Jean-Marie Le Pen, who will have to appear before the French justice over his anti-immigrant comments made on radio in 2009. On Thursday 15 June, the MEPs will take a position on lifting Marine Le Pen's immunity. This is the fifth time that the MEPs have withdrawn Le Pen's protection so that he can explain his comments before a court. This parliamentary vote follows a request made on 22 December 2016 by the then French justice minister, Jean-Jacques Urvoas, further to a request by the Prosecutor General to the Court of Appeal of Paris. This request, which was made in the framework of criminal proceedings, was notified to the European Parliament at its plenary session of 16 January of this year. (SP)
