08/06/2017 (Agence Europe) – During a Justice Ministers’ meeting on Thursday 8 June, the Council formally endorsed the compromise on the cross-border portability of digital content. The European Parliament did likewise in the middle of last May (see EUROPE 11792). The future regulation will allow Europeans to fully benefit from their subscriptions to Netflix, HBO Go, Amazon Prime, Spotify and Deezer when they travel within the EU. Online service providers will be able to take “reasonable and proportionate measures” to check that subscribers do not have their permanent residency in another member state of the EU. The regulation will become effective nine months after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU in the first quarter of 2018. (SPj)
