BEREC publishes report on the telecoms code

12/05/2017 (Agence Europe)The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) refuses to be turned into an executive body of the EU, as suggested by the European Commission, explains the independent group in a report on the future telecoms code, a report published on 11 May.  The document takes the form of a series of technical documents on aspect such as allocation of frequencies to the mobile network, oligopolistic telecoms markets, market analysis and coherence in the decision-making process.  It defends competition as a engine for investment and says that proportionate regulation and sustainable investment are not contradictory.  It recommends providing national regulators with more effective tools for dealing with problems on the market while providing them with greater flexibility in terms of how to apply the rules and a broader advisory mandate. (SPj)
