Romania called on to comply with principle of equal access in Black Sea

15/02/2017 (Agence Europe)The European Commission urged Romania on Wednesday 15 February to comply with the principle of equal access to EU waters and resources in the Black Sea. In the reasoned opinion sent, the Commission considers that Romania has failed to grant equal access to EU waters and resources, following a series of incidents involving vessels flying the flag of Bulgaria. The equal access regime is a fundamental principle of the EU’s common fisheries policy (CFP). Romania now has two months to inform the Commission of the measures taken to remedy the situation, failing which the Commission may decide to refer the case to the Court of Justice of the EU. (LC)
