15/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 15 February that it had approved the inclusion of Lucques du Languedoc in the register of protected designations of origin (PDO). These are green olives of the Lucques variety grown in the departments of Aude and Hérault in the south of France (this is the 240th French designation to be protected). In addition, the Commission gave protected geographical indication (PGI) status to Folar de Valpaços from Portugal, a soft bread, rectangular in shape, with a filling of dried, salted pork or smoked salami or ham. The dough is made with PDO Trás-os-Montes extra virgin olive oil or another olive oil with similar characteristics, giving an olive taste to the final product (the 138th Portuguese protected designation).
