07/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - World Health Day on Diabetes. "Healthy lifestyles" are one of the best ways of resisting diabetes. This is the message sent out on Thursday 7 April by the Commissioner for Health, Vytenis Andriukaitis, during World Health Day, which is focusing on the potential for the prevention of diabetes. Globally, the number of adults living with diabetes rose from 153 million to 415 million from 1980 to 2015. By 2030, diabetes is expected to be the seventh cause of death worldwide. The Commissioner indicated "My deepest wish is to see a radical shift from treatment of diseases towards promotion of good health". He pointed out that in many cases, it is possible to avoid and even put a stop to the most frequent kind of type II diabetes. He explained that "As with other chronic diseases, risk factors include an unhealthy diet, being overweight and lack of physical activity". He then went on to explain that as for type 1 diabetes, actions to improve the lives of people living with diabetes could include the further development of eHealth solution. (SPj)
