Brussels, 07/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Issues such as enhanced political dialogue, cooperation on security and on countering radicalisation, promoting trade relations, protecting the environment and combating climate change, as well as important regional and international issues (such as the situations in the South China Sea and the Middle East) will be the focus of High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini when she visits Indonesia on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 April.
On Friday, Mogherini will meet Indonesia's President Joko Widodo in Jakarta, before co-chairing the first ministerial meeting of the EU-Indonesia strategic dialogue alongside Indonesia's President Retno Marsudi.
On Saturday, Mogherini will meet the secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Le Luong Minh, and the ASEAN committee of permanent representatives.
While in Jakarta, Mogherini will also open the European travel and culture fair in Indonesia, and will address Defence University students on the EU's role and cooperation with Indonesia on security issues.
Bilateral relations between the EU and Indonesia are now governed under a partnership and cooperation agreement that entered into force on 1 May 2014 (see EUROPE 11071). Both parties plan on negotiating a bilateral free trade agreement (see EUROPE 11525). (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
