07/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - Visit by Commissioner Karmenu Vella. On Thursday 7 April, the European Commissioner for the Environment, Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella, began a working visit to Algeria, where he will hold talks with Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and members of the government. Discussions will focus on aspirations to establish a common Mediterranean strategy. An EU press release explained that this visit follows the agreement obtained in February this year in Catania (Sicily) by European ministers on "the urgent need for action to stem the worrying decline of fishing stocks in the Mediterranean and overcome competitive pressures in the fisheries sector".
