Brussels, 19/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - As part of her own initiative inquiry started on 29 July (see EUROPE 11133), European Ombudsman Emma O'Reilly announced the launch, on Friday 19 September, of a public consultation on transparency in the TTIP negotiations. With the deadline for O'Reilly's inquiry being 31 December, interested parties and the European Commission are asked to respond to the following three questions by 31 October: - what concrete measures could the Commission take to make the TTIP negotiations more transparent and what possibilities are there for improvement?;- what examples of good practice have you encountered in this area (in the Commission Directorates-General or other international organisations) which could be applied throughout the Commission?;- how could greater transparency affect the outcome of the negotiations?
The Ombudsman will examine the contributions received before presenting a set of new suggestions that the Commission should take into account as the negotiations proceed. (EH)
