Brussels, 19/09/2014 (Agence Europe) - Application of the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement is generating a number of problems, according to reports in Spanish newspaper El País on 17 September. Spanish fishing vessels complain of threats and sabotage when they return to Moroccan ports. Some twenty Moroccan boats are reported to have lined up in front of the Spanish fishing boats and cut their nets, claiming that they did not comply with the regulations.
El País quotes the Spanish fishermen as saying that these incidents violate the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement. The chair of Federacion Andaluza de Asociaciones Pesqueras, Pedro Maza, described the situation as intolerable and said that Madrid and Brussels had both been informed about the situation. (FB)
